Malaba wins Monthly Mug title

Betty Malaba fired two under par net 69 to claim the Ladies Monthly Mug title in the 18-hole golf event at Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club on Tuesday.

Malaba, who inspired Tanzania’s golf team to an emphatic victory at the inaugural regional golf tourney that took place in Kampala, Uganda, beat his closest challenger by seven strokes. Read the rest of this entry »

District collects Sh0.8 billion from tabacco above target

The Urambo District Council has realised Sh2.2 billion from tobacco cess this year, being Sh800 million above target.

Council chairman Adam Malunkwi said their target was Sh1.4 billion.
He told a councillors meeting that farmers harvested more tobacco than the target because they adhered to good agricultural practices.

Let presidential aspirants be MPs: legislator

The Government was asked to change the Constitution to allow presidential candidates who get at least three per cent of the vote to become MPs.

City workers plan to take bosses to court

Workers of a Dar es Salaam garment factory are preparing to sue its management.

Firm ‘forced’ to make double tax to Govt

Refusal by the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Dodoma regional manager to accept directives from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs has forced the Pensions Properties Limited (PPL) to pay double tax to the government.

The company paid the double tax amounting to more than Sh4 billion from its income accrued as payment for the construction of the ultra modern Bunge complex here.

Unicef, Govt launch national hygiene campaign

A national campaign to improve hygiene and sanitation in Tanzania was launched in Dar es Salaam.

It is the brainchild of the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The national toilet campaign is known as Fyatua choo ushinde (Kiswahili words literally meaning “Click a toilet and win”).
