As residents of Goha Village in Same District began burying the victims of Tuesday’s deadly mudslides, El Ni�o-driven rains continued to cause havoc in various parts of the country yesterday.
Heavy rains flooded villages and swept away bridges in Morogoro and Dodoma regions.
Hundreds of travellers were stranded for hours on end in Kibaigwa, Dodoma Region, after a downpour that started on Wednesday night swept away bridges in the area. Read the rest of this entry »

The Government is optimistic that oil could be discovered in the near future following intensive exploration activities in the country.
At least 13 internationally famous companies from France, England, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Norway and the Middle East have been engaged in oil and gas exploration in the country since 1950, the minister for Energy and Minerals, Mr William Ngeleja, has said.

President Jakaya Kikwete has described China as a beacon of
hope for Africa, urging closer ties between the emerging Asian country and Africa.
Speaking at the opening session of the fourth ministerial conference on Focac in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt, earlier this week, President Kikwete said progress in socio-economic development that China has attained over the last 30 years gives Africa hope and confidence.

A district education officer in Tandahimba, Mtwara Region, has
appeared before the district court here charged with corruption.

Twenty people perished in a mudslide in Same District on Tuesday night, triggered by the heavy rains that have pounded parts of the Kilimanjaro Region in the past three days.
local officials, who confirmed that 20 bodies had been recovered, expressed fears that the death toll would rise, as the search and rescue mission continued into the night.
