Fiesta 2009 bash was a flop, say angry fans

This year’s fiesta concert has been described as a flop due to poor organisation. Some revelers blamed the organisers for the mess, saying they did not get value for their money.

Some people complained about availability of only one beer brand that had sponsored the event -leaving the rest the show premises.

Tabora gets Sh3.4bn for major road works

Tabora Region received Sh3.4 billion from the road fund until the end of the fourth quarter of financial year 2008/09.

Speaking to members of Tabora Regional Road Board, regional Tanroads manager Partson Masebo, said the received amount was equivalent to 85.1 per cent of funds budgeted.

Zain voted most respected local firm

Zain Tanzania has been voted “2009 Most Respected Company” in the country by East Africa’s top CEOs.

The mobile phone giant was unveiled as the winner at a gala dinner held at a Nairobi hotel on Saturday. Vodacom and Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) were named as second and third most respected companies in the country respectively.

Cuba seeks Dar’s help to have citizens released from us jails

The government of Cuba appealed to Tanzania to support its decision to pressurize the United States to free five Cuban nationals currently being held in US jails.

Speaking during the signing of a five-year cooperation agreement between Communist Party of Cuba and Chama Cha Mapinduzi in Dar es Salaam, the Cuban ambassador to Tanzania, Mr Ernesto Gomez Diaz, asked CCM and the Government of Tanzania to join hands in efforts the have five Cuban heroes set free.

CUF lauds Karume remarks

The Civic United Front (CUF) has warmly received the speech by Zanzibar President Amani Abeid Karume on the recent political developments in the Isles.

Its national chairman, Professor Ibrahim Lipumba, said in a statement yesterday that they hoped the speech was given in the spirit of building the nation.

Tanesco broke law in Sh3.6bn tender award

Tanzania Electric Supply Company (Tanesco) flouted public procurement rules in awarding a Sh3.6 billion medical insurance tender, according to the Public Procurement Appeals Authority (PPAA).

The PPAA has thus ordered Tanesco to carry out the tendering process afresh after initially awarding the tender to the consortium comprising Alexander Forbes (T), Strategis Insurance Company and PharmAccess International last May.
