Opposition politicians Kabwe Zitto and James Mbatia are contemplating contesting parliamentary seats in Dar es Salaam Region in the forthcoming General Election.
While Kigoma North MP Zitto says he is being persuaded to run in several constituencies, Mr Mbatia, who is chairman of the opposition NCCR-Mageuzi, has confirmed that he will contest the Kawe seat.
Speaking separately to The Citizen, the two leaders said they would make their final decisions public in the next two weeks.
Mr Zitto said Kinondoni Constituency voters had asked him to vie for the seat, adding that he had also been approached in Geita, Kahama, Kigoma Urban and Kigoma North constituencies. Read the rest of this entry »

A Chama Cha Mapinduzi cadre in Kahama District, has declared his intention to face the seating MP for Kahama constituency, Mr James Lembeli, during this year’s General Election.
Mr Malimi Charles Ng’wabulang’wa, 52, said he was determined to improve the quality of education in the constituency by using subventions from gold mines in the district.
The incumbent MP is among a few legislatures who have vowed to fight grand corruption in the country.
He has a Masters degree in theology from Columbus University in US and another Masters degree in management and administration from Saint Augustine University of Tanzania in Mwanza. Read the rest of this entry »

Some unknown thugs in Moshi, on Friday booed and threw stones at CCM youth wing (UVCCM) members taking part in peaceful march in the municipality.
Apart from throwing stones, the thugs flashing a ‘V’ sign, believed to be a traditional sign of the opposition party, Chadema.
The act prompted the CCM youth wing members to invade the Moshi Bus terminal in pursuit of the attackers.
The incident occurred at around noon on Friday when UVCCM members were marching to mark celebrations to confirm its commanders. The event was officiated by the wing?s national chairman, Mr Benno Malisa. Read the rest of this entry »

Milk processors in Tanzania’s nascent diary industry want the government to protect them against imported milk and lower taxes to prevent the industry from collapsing.
They say the industry could generate 10 times the tax revenue currently collected from imported milk products.
The sector, they say, is facing a bleak future as the challenges mount, chief among them being limited government protection, drought, external competition, low milk consumption and high taxes.
Mboka Mwanitu, executive secretary of the Tanzania Milk Processors Association, told The EastAfrican in Dar es Salaam that despite the organisation’s meeting with Members of Parliament and Prime Minister Mizingo Pinda last year, their concerns have not been addressed. Read the rest of this entry »
