Solid waste management standards vital to curb filthiness

THE Tanzania Bureau of Standards should set standards for solid waste management which have to be adhered to by all local government authorities when they discharge their duties to ensure consistency of services rendered, to address the problem of filthiness that has been  rocking this country for a long time now.

According to recommendations by a recent report published the Controller and Auditor General’s office , Performance Audit on the Management of Solid Waste in Big Cities and Regions in Tanzania, the Prime Minister’s Office-Regional Administration and Local Government Authorities should engage itself in monitoring and evaluation of solid waste management activities through out the country, and a workable monitoring and evaluation plan should be upfront in place.

Tanzanians could ‘lose out in EAC’

Tanzanians have been warned that unless they change their attitude, they are likely to lose in the East African Common Market set to become operational in July this year.
 
 Some regional analysts believe that Tanzania would be left behind by their counterparts in the regional bloc because they lack the necessary business skills and some also lack confidence.
 
Key officials from both the public and private sectors have warned  that many Tanzanians are not aggressive enough in business compared to their counterparts in the region.

Mkuchika to defend his Newala seat

Hundreds of Newala residents last week took part in two peaceful demonstrations to press their MP, Mr. George Mkuchika, to declare if he will defend his seat during the forthcoming General Election in October.

The demonstrations were held in Newala town and in Mbeya village in Mtopwa ward, with the demonstrators urging the MP to declare his position.

They said they wanted to hear from Mr Mkuchika himself, who doubles as Information and Sports minister, before making their minds on who to support as there many candidates have already declared interest for the seat. Read the rest of this entry »
