Minister set for another election win

The road for re-election of the Msalala Member of Parliament, Mr Ezekiel Maige, seems to be paved as party zealots have concurred to have him as their sole candidate.

Eight out of 14 ward Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) political committees in the constituency have declared Mr Maige, who doubles as the Natural Resources and Tourism deputy minister, the sole aspirant for the seat.

The CCM secretary in Kahama District, Mr Sospeter Nyigoti, argues, however, that the CCM ward political committees resolutions do not prevent other members of the ruling party from aspiring for the post.

Power comes to the Spice Islands again

 Power was restored in Zanzibar on Monday evening but could not reach a number suburbs because vandals had stolen electricity wires during the three-month power outage.

It started to flow at around 5.15 p.m. after technicians finished repairs at the Fumba power station in Zanzibar island. Zanzibar Electricity Company (Zeco) acting manager Ali Hassan Mbarouk urged people from areas which have not yet received power to notify his office for necessary repairs.

Vandalism of electricity wires was common during the three months when Zanzibar experienced a total blackout.

Religious leaders decry Mara revenge killings

Religious leaders in Mara, have separately condemned the ongoing spate of vendetta-motivated murders amongst their followers.

Christian and Muslim leaders have vowed to join forces with the government in finding a lasting solution to end senseless bloodshed in the region.

Killing of innocent people is the result of endless land conflicts and cattle rustling, Anglican Bishop of Mara diocese Elekiah Omindo, and Mara regional Sheikh Athuman Magehe, separately observed recently.
