THE Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (SUMATRA) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to owners of buses issued with notification to pay fine or have their licences revoked.
SUMATRA’s Technical and Safety Manager Mr Aron Kisaka said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that some bus owners had ignored the notification and failed to pay the fines.
“Some drivers and conductors refused directives given to them by Majembe Auction Mart, who are carrying out the operation of seizing vehicles defying traffic regulations and laws,” Mr Kisaka said. Read the rest of this entry »

Jakaya Kikwete led hundreds of mourners at the residence of retired Ambassador Andrew Daraja at Kimara B in Dar es Salaam today to pay their last respects to the diplomat’s wife the late Anna Daraja. President Kikwete’s entourage arrived at the ambassador’s residency at around 12.59pm.
He was accompanied by his wife Mama Salma Kikwete. Government officials, diplomats and members of the business community turned up to pay their last respects to the late Anna whose body was transported to Muheza, Tanga for burial.
They include the ministers for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mr Bernard Membe, former Prime Minister Dr Salim Ahmed Salim, Permanent Secretary in the ministry for Information, Culture and Sports Mr Seth Kamuhanda,

There appears to be no respite for Bishop Zacharia Kakobe’s church in Dar es Salaam, which has been slapped with a new order by the Tanzania Roads Agency (Tanroads), coming hot on the heels of its just ended protracted showdown with Tanesco.
Technicians erect electricity pylons near the Full Gospel Bible Fellowship (FGBF) church in Dar es Salaam earlier this week. Tanroads has given FGBF seven days to dismantle two billboards outside the church to clear the way for the installation of high-voltage overhead cables.
