World Cup tickets up for grabs

World soccer governing body (FIFA) has offered Tanzania 290 tickets for soccer fans wishing to watch the World Cup finals in South Africa.

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) secretary general Frederick Mwakelebela announced yesterday saying the sales of the tickets would end tomorrow afternoon.He said the number of tickets offered doesn’t meet the demand of 700 tickets TFF had requested from the world soccer body.

“The fans are also required to pay 10 percent of the price being posting and handling charges,”added Mwakalebela.Explaining further Mwakalebela said Fifa wanted the money to be sent to them on March 18. Be innovative,public sector told

The Tanzanian public sector must be innovative by implementing new processes, services and methods of delivery that could result in improvements in outcomes efficiency and quality, if  the country is to attain the Development Vision goals by 2025, the Head of Public Service Mr Philemon Luhanjo said in Dar es Salaam recently.

Speaking at a workshop on how to create a more empowered governance organized by Deloitte Tanzania Mr Luhanjo said reforms alone are not enough to ensure an efficient  public sector if innovations are not taken on board. During the workshop, which was also attended by permanent secretaries and head of public institutions,

 Mr Luhanjo also officially launched a book titled Public Sector Innovator’s Play Book authored by William D. Eggers a highly regarded author and governance consultant who is also the executive director of Deloitte’s Public Leadership Institute. Read the rest of this entry »

Food fortification project to combat malnutrition in Tanzania

The Japan Social Development Fund has disbursed $2.69 million through the World Bank, to fight malnutrition in Tanzania. The programme will support food fortification in rural areas that are not reached by the national food fortification programme.

Last week, stakeholders from across the globe gathered at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) offices in Dar es Salaam to discuss the importance of food fortification, ways to increase the same and encourage media participation in changing societal perception on fortified products. 2010/2011 Budget countdown: How the stimulus money was spent

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) had by last December disbursed half of the Sh1.7 trillion set aside to cushion the economy from the adverse effects of the global economic downturn. Documents seen by The Citizen show that BoT has disbursed a total of Sh870.8 billion, equivalent to 51 per cent of the allocation. The figures are largely in line with the current Budget.

This money, according to the guidelines for the preparation of medium-term plan and Budget framework for 2010/11-2012/13, was set aside in response to the global financial and economic crisis, which reached its climax last year.
