Disconnections underway to fix water bill dodgers

 The days of illegal water consumers in Mwanza City are numbered, says the Mwanza Urban Water and Sewerage Authority (Mwauwasa).

Its director general, Dr Justus Rwetabura, observed at the climax of Water Week celebrations here recently that some city residents had their water pipes illegally connected, while others were tampering with its metres.

He said Mwauwasa would embark on a crackdown on illegal consumers of the precious liquid, including those accumulating water bills for up to three months. Read the rest of this entry »

Attempting the Awesome Kili-Klimb

My husband came home from work one day last November and casually said, ‘I’m climbing Mt.Kilimanjaro next year. Can you join me?’I was not too enthusiastic.

As someone who has been hiking for many years, I thought of myself as being in pretty good shape. But climbing a mountain inAfrica”one with an altitude of 19,340 feet; to go seven days with no shower? It just didn’t sound all that appealing.

TIC in big boost to transport investors

The Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC) has, in an unprecedented move, announced plans to offer incentives to enable local investors to import modern buses and provide safe, reliable and adequate public transport.The TIC director of Investment Promotion, Mr Raymond Mbilinyi, said the objective was to help ease the nagging traffic congestion in Dar es Salaam first.

According to Mr Mbilinyi, the incentives will include tax exemptions for transporters who will import big new buses to providing commuter services in the city, whose population is now estimated at 4 million.

The new initiative comes at a time when there is mounting concern over the colossal economic losses caused by the endemic traffic jams along Dar es Salaam roads, which are estimated to be over Sh4 billion daily.
