First Lady warns students over clothing

The First Lady, Mama Salma Kikwete, has admonished schoolgirls in Mara Region for provoking men’s lust for sex by  putting on indecent clothes.

Indecent clothes won by girl students attract men who end up impregnating them or have them contract sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV/Aids, and losing their education dreams, she observed.

“Stop exposing your bodies in public because you will gain nothing but sorrows by attracting lustful men,” she told the schoolgirls. Read the rest of this entry »

Firm plans fund raising to finance water project

Spearhead Africa Company, an international firm with a branch in Tanzania, plans a series of events in Dar es Salaam on April 18, to raise funds for the global campaign to combat impending water crisis.

Speaking during a press conference in the city on Monday, Spearhead Africa advertising manager Ms Bertha Ikua, said they target to raise about $5,000 during the events to be donated to an NGO, Practica Foundation, to establish 20 functioning safe water points to benefit over 3,000 villagers in Njombe District.

She said her company has decided to join other cities taking part in such events across the world. The events would include a 6km walk and 15km run, the average distance that women and children in developing countries walk everyday in search of water. Read the rest of this entry »

PARTY POLITICS: Mpendazoe: Why i have quit CCM

Outspoken Kishapu MP Fred Mpendazoe yesterday quit the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) to join a newly established opposition outfit that some critics recently dismissed as a hoax.Announcing his decision to jump ship at the Information Centre (Maelezo) auditorium in Dar es Salaam, Mr Mpendazoe said he had reached the decision after considering a number of factors.

He said he strongly felt he no longer had confidence in the party on whose ticket he entered Parliament for the first time following the 2005 General Election. And reacting to Mr Mpendazoe’s announcement, Chama Cha Jamii (CCJ) officials bragged that the MP’s decision to join it was just an early signal of the new party’s potential strength.
   
CCJ secretary general Renatus Muabhi said: “Ours is a strategic party. We expect many CCM stalwarts to join us, as the clock ticks towards the October elections.”

Zanzibar House gives nod to referendum bill

 Members of the House of Representative have passed a bill to set the stage for a referendum in Zanzibar.    The bill was passed unanimously yesterday after two days of discussion, which was an indication that it would eventually be voted into law without a hitch.  

 Most of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) members of the House refused to contribute to the debate, saying they did not want to confuse their voters.  Very few law makers were able to register to make contributions, which annoyed Speaker Pandu Ameir Kificho. 

The bill came out of the recent political development in the Isles, especially after the historical meeting in November last year of two political rivals, President Amani Abeid Karume of CCM and Civic United Front (CUF) secretary general Mr Seif Shariff Hamad.   Read the rest of this entry »

Kwa mujibu wa matokeo ya uchunguzi wa kitabibu, baadhi ya kuku wa kufugwa wanaoingia sokoni wamekuzwa kwa kutumia ‘utundu’ wenye hatari wa baadhi ya wafugaji wasio waaminifu kwa kulisha mifugo hiyo dawa za ARV ambazo huwafanya kuku hao kuonekana wakubwa na wanene kwa muda mfupi. Uchunguzi huo unakwenda mbele zaidi na kubainisha kwamba, tabia za dawa hizo ambazo ni kujenga mwili na kuimarisha kinga ya magonjwa kwa mwathirika wa Virusi vya Ukimwi, ndiyo inayompata mlaji wa kuku hao.
