Taxpayers deplore cumbersome procedures

SOME customers at the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Mwenge branch say they were being subjected to torture and long queues under the scorching sun while waiting to pay tax. The customers have appealed to the authorities to do something in order to ease their hardships.

Customers who spoke to the ‘Daily News’ on Wednesday at the scene said it has been an embarrassment for them to line up in long queues from morning to late afternoon waiting to fulfil their tax obligations.

“It is really disappointing due to the amount of time spent on paying the tax while there are many other things to do,” said one Jummne Sekidule who spent two days before clearing his tax.

NEC meets today in Dodoma

 THE National Executive Committee of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) meets in Dodoma today.

 A statement from CCM’s Ideology and Publicity Office in Dodoma, noted that the meeting which will be chaired by the party’s national Chairman, President Jakaya Kikwete, will be preceded by the Central Committee meeting at 11am.

 According to the statement, the meeting’s main agenda is to go through the party’s draft policies between this year and 2020. Another agenda is the party’s election manifesto for the years 2010 to 2015. Read the rest of this entry »

Sim cards registration gets 2-week grace period

THE Government has extended again deadline for registration of mobile phone sim cards from Wednesday midnight to July 15 this year.

The Minister for Communications, Science and Technology, Professor Peter Msolla, said here on Wednesday that the government would not again extend the deadline after expiry of the grace period.

Moving his ministry’s budget estimates for 2010/11, the minister urged people to register now to avoid last minute inconveniences, insisting that there would be no further extension. According to Prof Msolla, up to March 30 this year, 10.7 million sim cards were registered. Read the rest of this entry »

New EAC era dawns as doubts linger on
