JK returns forms, promise greatness for the nation

PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete has promised to take the nation to greater heights, after laying a strong foundation and recording significant achievements so far.

“I have laid the foundation during the first two years and in the following three years we delivered most of our electoral promises.

“I now promise that my next government will make even greater things,” Mr Kikwete said in his remarks after returning presidential nomination forms at the CCM headquarters here. Read the rest of this entry »

Hundreds at pilot’s funeral

Defence and National Service minister Dr Hussein Mwinyi yesterday led hundreds of mourners to pay their last respects to the bodies of two Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) soldiers who died early this week in a military plane crash.

Some people wept openly after the caskets carrying the bodies of the two soldiers who were in a training mission arrived at the Ukonga Airwing base for the ceremony from the Lugalo Military Hospital.

They died when their war plane crashed at Manga village along Segera-Chalinze highway apparently following what is believed to be a mechanical problem. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Do not sell land to foreigners’

PRIME Minister Mr Mizengo Pinda has urged Tanzanians not to feel threatened by the Common Market in the East African Community (EAC) which took off on Thursday. He said that national interests would be safeguarded firmly.

The premier said during a weekly impromptu question and answer session with MPs that agreements reached and identification of areas of cooperation by the five EAC member states considered the laws of respective countries.

He was answering Mr Khalifa Suleiman Khalifa (Gando - CUF) who was worried that the common market might see people selling their land haphazardly to foreigners. Read the rest of this entry »

More Zanzibar presidential aspirants return forms

 FOUR more aspirants for the Zanzibar presidency in the October general elections returned their nomination forms yesterday at the CCM sub-head office in Kisiwandui and admitted that there is no clear candidate from the pool who can declare victory at the moment.

The aspirants, speaking on separate occasions, said that the race was too tight to predict the outright winner. Those who have returned nomination forms are; Mr Haroun Ali Suleiman, Mr Mohamed Raza, Mr Omar Sheha Mussa and Mr Ali Juma Shamuhuna. They submitted their forms to Mr Mohamed Hajji Hassan, CCM election officer. Mr Mohamed Yussuf Mshambwa is expected to submit his form on Thursday which is the last day of returning the filled forms signed by at least 250 supporters.
