Dodoma town is becoming hectic by the day as preparations for Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) top organs’ meetings to pick contestants for the next General Election pick up.
Meetings of the CCM Central Committee, National Executive Committee and the General Congress are expected to be held from today. Among other activities, they will pick the Zanzibar Presidential candidate, a task that has attracted a lot of attention.
People who matter in the CCM nomination process, especially those who have influence in Zanzibar politics, have started arriving to attend the meetings. Read the rest of this entry »

THE Minister for Community Development, Gender and Children, Mrs Margaret Sitta on Tuesday launched the third state of the African Women Decade ((2010 - 2020) at national level here.
In a press conference also attended by Deputy Minister, Dr Lucy Nkya, Parliamentary Committee members for Community Development, Mrs Sitta said the decade was to make national leaders more accountable and provide enough resources for women’s empowerment and promote gender equality in African countries.
Under the decade, member countries of the African Union (AU) are obliged to set aside enough funds for women’s development, ensure equal opportunities between men and women in decision-making positions and make sure member countries implement all international and regional instruments on gender and development and all forms of discrimination against women and children. A public debate, which was to bring together 11 Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) aspirants for the Zanzibar presidency, flopped yesterday after the majority of aspirants failed to turn up for the event.However, two aspirants who attended the debate criticised media reports that CCM’s special committee in Zanzibar had given a nod to only five of the 11 presidential aspirants. The names of Mr Ali Karume and Mr Mohammed Raza are missing from the list of five party members whose names have reportedly been okayed by the committee.
Reacting to questions from journalists at Zanzibar’s Ocean View Hotel, where the debate was held, the candidates said they did not believe that the committee was empowered to drop names of contestants. Read the rest of this entry »
