Mr Kikwete made the pledges at a ceremony organised by Dodoma Regional CCM leaders to congratulate him for his nomination as the party’s candidate for the Union presidency on Sunday. He got 1,893 votes out of 1,909 cast.

The Kisutu Resident Magistrates’ Court was yesterday told that the gold auditing firm, Alex Stewart (Assayers) Government Business Corporation, entered into a multi-billion shillings contract with the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) before it was registered in the county as required by law.
The assistant registrar of the Business Registration and Licensing Agency (Brela), Mr Frank Kajusi, revealed this when testifying in the office abuse case facing two former Cabinet ministers, Mr Basil Mramba and Mr Daniel Yona and former Treasury permanent secretary, Mr Gray Mgonja.
Mr Kajusi told the court that Brela awarded the company a certificate of compliance on August 18, 2009, after it fulfilled all requirements.

A staunch supporter of the Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, businessman Mustafa Jaffar Sabodo, yesterday contributed Sh100 million to the opposition Chadema “to strengthen democracy in Tanzania”.
Mr Sabodo presented a cheque for the the donation to Chadema chairman Freeman Mbowe, who was accompanied secretary-general Willibrod Slaa and the party’s director of finance, Mr Anthony Komu.
A press statement issued by Chadema yesterday in Dar es Salaam quoted Mr Sabodo as saying that although he was a cadre of the ruling CCM, he wanted liked see that a strong opposition and thriving democracy in the country.
