A BIG turnout of aspirants continued to collect forms on the second day since the exercise started on Monday, to seek the CCM approval to vie for Parliament slots countrywide.
From Sumbawanga, PETI SIYAME reports that the race for parliamentary elections and councillorship on CCM ticket that began on Monday, improved yesterday with the Prime Minister Mizengo Pinda collecting and returning the forms to defend his Mpanda East constituency.
He picked the forms at around noon at Mpanda CCM district offices. The Rukwa regional CCM party secretary, Captain Fratern Lesaito, said there was massive turn-out on Tuesday. “A total of 34 applicants for the MPs seats collected the forms by mid-day yesterday in Rukwa region, whereby 70 members collected the forms,” he said. PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete has appointed nine Deputy Permanent Secretaries for various ministries.
In a press statement from the State House by the Chief Secretary, Mr Philemon Luhanjo, the appointment of the Deputy Permanent Secretaries began on July 15, 2010 while swearing-in ceremony will be held on Thursday, July 29.
The appointees included Mr Ngosi C.X. Mwihava, currently the Deputy Commissioner (alternative energy) in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals appointed as Deputy Permanent Secretary into the Vice-President’s Office.
Ambassador Herbert E. Mrango, who is the Director of the Regional Cooperation Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, becomes Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Infrastructure Development Ministry.

THE opposition CHADEMA has asked its Secretary General, Dr Wilbroad Slaa, to be its presidential candidate in the coming general election.
‘Daily News’ has confirmed that the decision was reached by the opposition party’s Central Committee which met on Tuesday in Dar es Salaam.
“The CC has asked Dr Slaa to be the party’s presidential candidate,” said Chadema’s deputy secretary-general, Mr Zitto Kabwe.
