Kikwete upbeat on MDGs guidelines

PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete said the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are significant guidelines in efforts to alleviate poverty in the world.

He said this during a meeting at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Thursday with UN Deputy Secretary General Dr Asha-Rose Migiro.

“The MDGs are vital guidelines because they reflect the day-to-day duties and obligations aimed at reduction of poverty and provide a summary of all what we deal with,” President Kikwete said. Read the rest of this entry »

TNBC to promote Kilimo Kwanza at Nane nane show

THE Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC) will take part in the Nane Nane Agricultural show which begins in Dodoma on Sunday, under theme of Kilimo Kwanza.

TNBC Executive Secretary Dunstan Mrutu said in Dar es Salaam on Thursday that the event was an opportunity to sensitise the people on Kilimo Kwanza and its underlying ten pillars, providing platform for communication and creating common understanding on roles and responsibilities.

“Tanzanians will definitely benefit from this year’s event,” Mr Mrutu stressed.Kilimo Kwanza is an ambitious government initiative that aims at revamping agricultural sector and uses it, attaining strong and viable economy for the country’s development. Read the rest of this entry »

TSN employee dies in Dar es Salaam

THE Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN), publishers of ‘Daily News’, ‘Sunday News’ ‘HabariLeo’ and ‘HabariLeo Jumapili’ on Thursday lost its senior sales officer, Jennifer Mwela, who succumbed to delivery complications at Burhan hospital in Dar es Salaam.

The brother of the deceased, Milinga Mwela, said Jennifer died at 4pm after developing blood pressure while undergoing caesarian operation at the hospital. 

He said during the operation, the 27-year old Jennifer was in an anaesthesia and therefore she witnessed the operation which, however, shocked her. Read the rest of this entry »

University of Dodoma:Embracing knowledge for country’s development

 HIGHER education has been shown to provide fundamentals for economic development. This is because, currently most technologically advanced economies are knowledge–based and they create millions of knowledge related jobs as compared to cheap labour and natural resources.

Unfortunately, there are very few universities in Tanzania and the university going-age rate for Tanzania is lowest in the region. Similarly student enrolment into the existing universities is still low not exceeding 50 per cent of all qualifying candidates from ALevel education get admission into universities.

Therefore, the Government decided to establish a new and modern university in Dodoma known as The University of Dodoma (UDOM). UDOM is designed to be a comprehensive university, which will train and produce human capital in the major professions for economic development. It is expected to enrol 40,000 students when fully operational.
