The capital city is Dodoma and the major port is Dar es Salaam, which is the natural starting point for trips in Tanzania. It is near Mount Kilimanjaro, Dodoma and Zanzibar, and many beautiful beaches are within easy reach of the city, such as those at Kunduchi, Mjimwena and Mbwa Maji.

Mount Kilimanjaro, at 5895m (19,341ft), is Africa's highest mountain and the most famous tourist attraction in Tanzania.

Just south of the equator, Tanzania borders Kenya and Uganda in the north; Congo DRC -formerly known as Zaire, Rwanda and Burundi in the west; and Zambia, Malawi and Moçambique in the south. Namanga Gate (between Tanzania and Kenya) is open 24 hrs per day.

With an estimated 3.0 million people, Dar es Salaam is now the busiest port in East Africa, attracting more investors, indicated by increase in number of banks, restaurants and hotels as well as growing tourist markets. It is the gateway to Zanzibar, a 75-minute ferry ride away, and a starting point to the northern and southern safari circuit.
