Kasanga
Much of the length of Lake Tanganyika forms the border
between Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire)
and Tanzania. It is the second deepest freshwater lake in the world. The only outlet is the Lukuga River, which flows into the Congo River.
The lake is noted for its many varieties of fish. Crocodiles and hippopotamuses are found on the shores, and the surrounding area is very fertile. The first Europeans to see the lake were the British explorers John Speke and Sir Richard Burton in 1858.
